Prayer Flag Project

Prayer flags

The wind carries prayers on flags to the heavens

Many people have expressed an interest in remembering Oige's spirit in some tangible way. Oige's family has decided to invite those interested to create a prayer flag for Oige.

For instructions on how to make a prayer flag, see this excerpt from the book Sacred Rituals.

Basically, take a piece of piece of cloth, either blue, white, red, green or yellow (actually any color is fine), and make an 8 inch by 10 inch rectangle (or a 9"x9" square, whatever you want to do). Sit quietly for a while and think of an image or prayer you would like to place on the flag to be offered to the heavens. Fold over 1" of the flag on one of the short ends (that's where the rope will go later); you can sew a hem or just pin it. Then paint your design on. Then, get the flag to the Keanes who will string all the flags and hang them on Grass Mountain, where Oige died (or you can make your own series and hang them where you think best).

Also, consider attending the Prayer Flag Workshop at Santa Ynez High School on September 4 at 7:15am where supplies will be provided.
